How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 80 mg once a day or split into two doses. The usual maintenance dose is 160-320 mg per day, split into two doses.

Method

Always take Sotacor exactly as your doctor tells you. Take it at least 1 hour before a meal, as food can reduce its absorption.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is 320 mg, but your doctor might adjust it if needed.

RARE
  • Fewer cells that help blood clot, increasing the risk of bleeding or bruising
  • Low blood sugar
  • Poor blood flow to the limbs (Raynaud's syndrome), causing cold or blue fingers/toes and leg pain when walking
  • Itching, hair loss, excessive sweating, psoriasis
  • Heart block, angina pectoris
  • Bronchospasm (narrowing of airways)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sotalol or any other ingredient in Sotacor.
  • Do not take if you have certain severe heart rhythm problems, untreated heart failure, or shock.
  • Do not take if you have asthma or other severe breathing problems.
  • Do not take if you have very low blood pressure or severe circulation problems in your hands and feet (like Raynaud's syndrome).
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney failure.

  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as Sotacor can hide symptoms of low blood sugar, making it harder to manage.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Call your doctor right away if you experience sudden dizziness or fainting.
  • This medicine can sometimes worsen symptoms of heart failure or asthma.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Non-selective beta blocker. Risk of QT prolongation. Start therapy under specialist supervision. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include bradycardia, orthostatism, sleep disorders and bronchial contraction. . (updated 20.1.2025)
