How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 10 mg (one tablet) per day, taken just before bedtime. Elderly or patients with liver problems should start with 5 mg (half a tablet). Do not exceed 10 mg per day.

Method

Take the tablet whole with a glass of water, just before going to bed. Ensure you can get at least 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep after taking it.

Important

Do not take more than 10 mg (one tablet) within a 24-hour period.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to zolpidem or any other ingredients of this medicine.
  • Avoid if you have severe muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), temporary breathing pauses during sleep (sleep apnea), severe liver damage, or acute/severe breathing problems.
  • Do not take if you have a history of sleepwalking or other unusual behavior (like driving, eating, making calls, or having sex) while not fully awake after taking this type of medicine.
  • This medicine is for short-term use, usually not more than 4 weeks, including the time you gradually stop taking it. Long-term use increases the risk of dependence.
  • Be careful if you have chronic breathing problems or liver problems, as these conditions may worsen or affect how the medicine works.

  • Elderly patients (over 65) may be more sensitive to the effects and have an increased risk of falls. Be cautious when getting up at night.
  • Do not stop taking Somnor suddenly, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms like headache, muscle pain, severe anxiety, restlessness, and confusion. Always reduce the dose gradually under a doctor's supervision.
  • This medicine can cause memory problems (amnesia) a few hours after taking it. To minimize this, ensure you get 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
  • Somnor can cause unusual behaviors like restlessness, agitation, aggression, hallucinations, sleepwalking, or sleep-driving. If these occur, talk to your doctor immediately.
  • Avoid alcohol and other sedating medications while taking Somnor, as they can increase drowsiness and the risk of serious side effects, including breathing problems and coma.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery the day after taking Somnor if you still feel drowsy, dizzy, or have impaired concentration. Allow at least 8 hours between taking the medicine and activities requiring alertness.
  • Somnor is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. For short-term use only. The short-acting nature of the medicinal product increases the risk of adverse effects. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 12.2.2024)
