How to Use

Dosage

A very small drop of the allergen solution, about 3 x 10⁻³ microliters, is applied to your skin during the test.

Method

A healthcare professional will put a small drop of the allergy liquid on your skin, usually on your forearm or back. Then, they will gently prick the skin through the drop with a tiny needle (lancet).

Important

This is a single diagnostic test administered by a healthcare professional, so there is no daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • A bump (wheal) at the test spot that keeps growing for 10-20 minutes.
  • Swelling and redness around the test area that can last for 6-24 hours.
RARE
  • Redness on the skin.
  • Severe itching on hands, feet, or other body areas (like hives).
  • Trouble breathing.
  • Feeling warm.
  • General feeling of discomfort.
  • Feeling restless or anxious.

Important Warnings

  • Very rarely, severe allergic reactions like anaphylactic shock can happen. Medical staff are always prepared to treat such reactions.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking beta-blocker medication.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have acute or chronic atopic eczema in the test area.
  • Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking, especially antihistamines, as they can affect the test results. You may need to stop some medicines before the test.
