How to Use

Dosage

A small drop of the allergen solution is placed on your skin for the test.

Method

A healthcare professional will place a small drop of the allergy liquid on your skin, usually on your forearm or back. They will then gently prick the skin through the drop with a special needle called a lancet. This test helps see how your body reacts to different allergens. You will be observed for at least 30 minutes after the test.

Important

This is a diagnostic test performed by a healthcare professional, not a daily medication. There is no daily dose for patients.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • The wheal (raised bump) at the test site may continue to grow for the first 10-20 minutes after the allergen is applied.
  • Local widespread swelling and redness may appear 6-24 hours after the skin prick test.
RARE
  • Anaphylactic shock or a severe allergic reaction can occur.
  • Redness and intense itching in the palms of hands, soles of feet, and other body parts (like hives).
  • Breathing difficulties.
  • Feeling of warmth.
  • General discomfort.
  • Restlessness or anxiety.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are taking beta-blocker medication at the same time.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have acute or chronic eczema in the area where the test will be done.
  • Very rarely, severe allergic reactions, like anaphylactic shock, can happen. Medical staff are always prepared to handle such reactions.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines, especially antihistamines or steroid creams, as they can affect the test results. You may need to stop some medicines before the test.
  • If you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this test. The skin prick test can be done during breastfeeding.
