Method

This medicine is given as an injection by a healthcare professional, typically into a muscle, joint, or other affected area. It should not be given into a vein.

Important

The maximum dose is determined by your doctor for each injection, and is not a fixed daily amount, as injections are given intermittently.

  • Infection
  • Reduced natural hormone production (with long-term use)
  • Rounded face and weight gain
  • Fluid retention in the body
  • Depression or feeling unusually good (euphoria)
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens)
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach or intestinal ulcers (which may bleed or burst)
  • Swelling in arms and legs
  • Bruises, thin and fragile skin, acne
  • Bone thinning (osteoporosis)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Poor wound healing
  • Low potassium in the blood
RARE
  • Severe metabolic problems (like tumor lysis syndrome) or a rare type of cancer (Kaposi's sarcoma).
  • Infections due to a weakened immune system.
  • Increased white blood cells in the blood.
  • Allergic reactions to the medicine, including severe ones.
  • Problems with hormone production or withdrawal symptoms after stopping treatment, like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, fever, and muscle or joint pain.
  • Changes in blood sugar levels, fat levels in the blood, and other body chemistry imbalances.
  • Mood changes, anxiety, sleep problems, confusion, or serious mental health issues like depression or psychosis.
  • Headaches, seizures, memory problems, or dizziness.
  • Eye problems like bulging eyes, increased eye pressure, or changes in vision.
  • Heart problems like worsening heart failure, irregular heartbeat, or heart muscle damage.
  • Low blood pressure, blood clots, or blood clots in the lungs.
  • Stomach or digestive problems like ulcers, pancreatitis, stomach pain, or nausea.
  • Liver inflammation or abnormal liver test results.
  • Skin issues like swelling, bruising, rash, itching, skin thinning, or acne.
  • Bone or muscle problems like bone thinning (osteoporosis), fractures, muscle weakness, joint pain, or tendon rupture.
  • Irregular menstrual cycle.
  • General feeling of being unwell.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Kidney crisis in patients with scleroderma (an autoimmune disease), with symptoms like high blood pressure and reduced urine.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you have a serious body-wide fungal infection, a parasitic infection, or if you suspect you have one, as this medicine can worsen infections.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to methylprednisolone, other corticosteroids, or any other ingredient in this medicine. Tell your doctor about any known drug allergies.
  • This medicine should not be given into a vein (intravenously). Injections into a muscle should not be given too shallowly or directly under the skin.
  • This medicine contains benzyl alcohol and should not be given to premature babies or newborns. Use in young children (under 3 years) for more than a week should only be done if a doctor recommends it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have other conditions like diabetes, heart problems, stomach ulcers, kidney or liver disease, eye problems (like glaucoma), or mental health issues. This medicine can affect these conditions.

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, pain, cramps, or stiffness during treatment.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice during treatment as it can increase the medicine's side effects.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, vision problems, and tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these effects.
