How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is usually 4–48 mg per day, depending on your condition. For long-term treatment, the lowest effective dose is preferably taken every other morning. For children, the lowest possible doses and shortest treatment periods are recommended.

Method

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has instructed. The tablet can be divided into two equal doses.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is 48 mg, but your doctor may prescribe higher doses for severe acute conditions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infection
  • Reduced natural hormone production (with long-term use)
  • Rounded face and weight gain
  • Fluid retention in the body
  • Depression, feeling unusually good (euphoria)
  • Cataracts
  • High blood pressure
  • Stomach or duodenal ulcer (may rupture and bleed)
  • Swelling of arms and legs
  • Bruises, thin and fragile skin, acne
  • Bone loss (osteoporosis)
  • Muscle weakness
  • Impaired wound healing
  • Low potassium in blood
RARE
  • Severe metabolic disorders (tumor lysis syndrome) when starting cancer treatment
  • Malignant blood vessel tumor (Kaposi's sarcoma)
  • Infections due to weakened immune system
  • Increased white blood cell count (leukocytosis)
  • Drug hypersensitivity reactions (including severe allergic reactions)
  • Withdrawal syndrome when stopping steroids (e.g., loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, headache, fever, joint pain, peeling skin, muscle pain, weight loss, and/or low blood pressure)
  • Decreased sugar tolerance, increased blood alkalinity, blood fat disorders, increased need for diabetes medication, nitrogen loss, high blood urea, increased calcium in urine, increased appetite, localized fat accumulation
  • Mood swings, psychological dependence, suicidal thoughts, psychotic disorders (including mania, delusions, hallucinations, schizophrenia), confusion, anxiety, personality changes, abnormal behavior, fatigue, insomnia, irritability
  • Increased intracranial pressure, seizures, memory loss, cognitive function disorders (e.g., in perception, learning, memory), lightheadedness, vertigo, headache
  • Bulging eyes, increased eye pressure, retinal and choroidal disease, thinning of cornea or sclera
  • Heart failure in susceptible patients, cardiac arrhythmias, rupture of heart muscle after heart attack
  • Excessive drop in blood pressure, arterial thrombosis, increased blood clotting, pulmonary embolism
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms (e.g., stomach ulcer, pancreatitis, peritonitis, esophagitis, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, diarrhea, indigestion, nausea), hiccups, increased liver enzyme levels
  • Skin symptoms (e.g., sudden local swelling (angioedema), small hemorrhages, visible widening of capillaries, skin stretch marks, skin pigmentation disorders, excessive hair growth, rash, skin redness, itching, hives, weakened skin test reactions, excessive sweating)
  • Bone fragility due to poor circulation, pathological fractures, muscle atrophy, muscle disease, joint disease due to nerve disease, joint pain, muscle pain, tendon rupture, spinal compression fracture
  • Irregular menstrual cycle
  • Malaise (general feeling of discomfort)
  • Blurred vision
  • Scleroderma renal crisis (increased blood pressure, decreased urine output) in patients with pre-existing scleroderma
  • Growth retardation in children

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you have a fungal infection affecting your whole body.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to methylprednisolone, other corticosteroids, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, pain, cramps, or stiffness while taking this medicine.
  • If you have cancer and notice symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, vision changes, or shortness of breath, tell your doctor immediately.
  • High doses or long-term use can cause muscle problems or numbness. Tell your doctor right away if you have muscle symptoms or tingling/numbness.

  • This medicine can make you more prone to infections or hide their symptoms. Tell your doctor right away if you notice any signs of infection during treatment.
  • If you are under unusual stress or expect to be during treatment, talk to your doctor. Your treatment might need to be adjusted.
  • This medicine can cause mental health issues like mood changes or confusion. Contact your doctor if you experience such symptoms, as your treatment may need adjustment.
  • This medicine can cause eye problems. Contact your doctor if you experience eye symptoms like irritation, blurred vision, or other vision problems.
  • If this medicine weakens your immune system, you cannot receive live or weakened vaccines. Ask your doctor about vaccinations during this treatment.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine or change your dose without talking to your doctor. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea, headache, fever, joint and muscle pain, weight loss, or low blood pressure. Your doctor will help you reduce the dose gradually.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice during treatment, as it can increase the medicine's side effects.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning to get pregnant, or think you might be pregnant, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine can cause side effects like dizziness, vision problems, and tiredness. If you experience these, do not drive or use machines.
