How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 5 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase it to 10 mg daily if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water at the same time each day. You can take them with or without food. Do not chew or crush them.

Important

Do not take more than 10 mg in a single day.

  • Urinary tract infection, bladder infection
  • Drowsiness, tiredness

  • Dry skin
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Swelling in lower legs and ankles
  • Severe constipation, blocked bowel (fecal impaction, intestinal obstruction)
  • Inability to empty bladder (urinary retention)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Vomiting
  • Itching, rash
  • Seeing or hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations), confusion
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Decreased appetite
  • High potassium levels in blood (can cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG), irregular heartbeat, feeling your heart beat fast (palpitations)
  • Voice problems
  • Liver problems, abnormal liver test results
  • Muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems (renal impairment)
  • Stomach discomfort, slow bowel movements that can lead to a blocked bowel
  • Widespread skin redness and peeling

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to solifenacin or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe trouble urinating or completely emptying your bladder (urinary retention).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a severe stomach or bowel problem, such as a blocked bowel.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have myasthenia gravis, a muscle weakness disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have high eye pressure (glaucoma) that is worsening your vision.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are on dialysis, have severe kidney problems, severe liver problems, or moderate liver problems while taking certain other medicines.
  • This medicine should not be used for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine may cause blurred vision, drowsiness, or tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these effects.
  • Stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you get a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, trouble breathing, or severe skin reactions (like blisters or peeling skin).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
