How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 5 mg tablet per day. Your doctor may increase it to 10 mg per day if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water at the same time each day. Do not chew or crush it. You can take it with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 10 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Indigestion (upset stomach, stomach pain, burping, heartburn)
RARE
  • Urinary tract infection or bladder infection
  • Drowsiness or tiredness
  • Altered taste
  • Dry or irritated eyes
  • Dry nasal passages
  • Acid reflux (stomach acid flowing back into the esophagus)
  • Dry throat
  • Dry skin
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Swelling in the lower legs (edema)
  • Severe constipation due to hardened stool in the large intestine
  • Blockage in the bowel
  • Inability to empty the bladder completely (urinary retention)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Vomiting
  • Itching, skin rash
  • Hallucinations, confusion
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Decreased appetite
  • High potassium levels in the blood (which can cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG), irregular heartbeat, feeling your heart beat, rapid heartbeat
  • Voice problems
  • Liver problems, abnormal liver test results
  • Muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems
  • Abdominal discomfort, slow bowel movements (which may lead to bowel obstruction)
  • Widespread skin redness and peeling

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to solifenacin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have trouble emptying your bladder completely (urinary retention).
  • Do not take if you have a severe stomach or bowel disease (like toxic megacolon, which can happen with severe colitis).
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis, a muscle disease causing extreme weakness.
  • Do not take if you have high eye pressure (glaucoma) and your vision is getting worse.

  • Do not take if you are on kidney dialysis.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease or moderate liver disease AND are taking medicines that slow down how Solifenacin Sandoz is removed from your body (e.g., ketoconazole).
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years of age.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make your vision blurry and cause drowsiness or tiredness. Do not drive or use machines if you feel these effects.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking it.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have difficulty emptying your bladder (e.g., weak urine stream), as there is a greater risk of urine buildup (urinary retention).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have constipation or slow bowel movements, as this medicine might make it worse.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a stomach hernia or heartburn.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a nerve disease (autonomic neuropathy).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
