How to Use

Dosage

Usually 5 mg once a day, unless your doctor prescribes 10 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with liquid. You can take it with or without food. Do not crush the tablet.

Important

Do not take more than prescribed by your doctor, usually no more than 10 mg per day.

  • Severe constipation, bowel obstruction
  • Inability to empty the bladder (urinary retention)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Vomiting
  • Itching, skin rash
  • Hallucinations, confusion
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Decreased appetite
  • High potassium levels in blood (may cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG), irregular heartbeat, feeling your own heartbeat, fast heart rate
  • Voice problems
  • Liver problems
  • Muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to solifenacin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have trouble emptying your bladder completely (urinary retention) or a weak urine stream.
  • Do not use if you have severe stomach or bowel problems (like severe constipation, blocked bowels, or toxic megacolon).
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disease).
  • Do not use if you have glaucoma (high pressure in your eyes that can cause vision loss).

  • Do not use if you have severe kidney disease, liver disease, or if you are on dialysis. Also, if you have severe kidney disease or moderate liver disease and are taking medicines that slow down how your body gets rid of Solifenacin ratiopharm (like ketoconazole).
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor considers it absolutely necessary.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience blurred vision, drowsiness, or tiredness while taking this medicine.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
