How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 5 mg once a day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food. Do not crush the tablets.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Constipation
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Upset stomach, indigestion, heartburn, or stomach discomfort
  • Urinary tract infection or bladder inflammation
  • Drowsiness
  • Changes in taste
  • Dry or irritated eyes
  • Dry nose, throat, or skin
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Tiredness or swelling in your legs and feet
RARE
  • Severe constipation leading to blocked bowel
  • Inability to completely empty the bladder (urinary retention)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Vomiting
  • Itching, skin rash
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations), confusion
  • Allergic skin rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to solifenacin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe difficulty emptying your bladder (urinary retention).
  • Do not use if you have a severe stomach or bowel condition, especially one that slows down digestion.
  • Do not use if you have Myasthenia gravis (a muscle disease causing severe muscle weakness).
  • Do not use if you have glaucoma (high pressure in the eyes that can damage your vision).

  • Do not use if you need kidney dialysis or have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you have severe kidney disease or moderate liver disease AND are taking medicines that prevent your body from clearing Solifenacin ratiopharm properly.
  • This medicine can make you feel drowsy, tired, or cause blurred vision. Do not drive or use machines if you have these side effects.
  • If you have a severe allergic reaction (like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, or severe skin reactions), stop taking this medicine and seek immediate medical help.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
