How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 5 mg once a day, but your doctor may increase it to 10 mg once a day if needed.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food. Do not crush the tablet.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 10 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dry mouth
  • Blurred vision
  • Constipation, nausea, upset stomach (feeling full, stomach pain, belching, heartburn)
  • Urinary tract infection, bladder inflammation
  • Drowsiness
  • Changes in taste
  • Dry (irritated) eyes
  • Dry nasal passages
  • Heartburn, dry throat
  • Dry skin
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Tiredness
  • Swelling in lower legs (edema)
RARE
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Severe constipation, vomiting
  • Itching, rash
  • Inability to completely empty the bladder (urinary retention)
  • Hallucinations, confusion
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Decreased appetite
  • High potassium levels in blood (may cause abnormal heart rhythm)
  • Sudden confusion (delirium)
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Irregular heartbeat (palpitations, fast pulse, changes in heart's electrical activity)
  • Voice problems
  • Bowel obstruction, stomach discomfort
  • Liver problems
  • Muscle weakness
  • Kidney problems

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to solifenacin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe difficulty emptying your bladder or cannot empty it completely.
  • Do not take if you have a serious stomach or bowel disease.
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis, a muscle disease causing extreme weakness.
  • Do not take if you have uncontrolled glaucoma (high eye pressure that can harm your vision).

  • Do not take if you are on dialysis or have severe kidney or liver problems.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • This medicine may make your vision blurry, cause dizziness, drowsiness, or make you feel tired. Do not drive or use machines if you feel this way.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get urgent medical help if you have severe allergic reactions, skin blisters or peeling, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat that makes it hard to breathe.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
