How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is one 5 mg tablet once a day, unless your doctor has prescribed 10 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with liquid. You can take it with or without food; do not crush it.

Important

Do not take more than one dose (5 mg or 10 mg) once daily as instructed by your doctor.

  • High blood potassium (may cause abnormal heart rhythm)

  • Kidney dysfunction

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you have an allergic reaction, a severe skin reaction (blisters or peeling skin), or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat which makes it difficult to breathe (angioedema).
  • Do not take if you have severe difficulty urinating or emptying your bladder completely.
  • Do not take if you have a severe stomach or bowel condition (such as toxic megacolon) or severe constipation.
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness), increased eye pressure (glaucoma), severe kidney disease, kidney disease requiring dialysis, or severe liver disease.
  • This medicine may cause blurred vision, drowsiness, or tiredness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment.. Consider the risk of QT prolongation especially when combined with other QT-prolonging drugs. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
