Softacort

Softacort is an eye drop solution containing hydrocortisone. It is used to relieve allergic symptoms or inflammation on the surface of the eye.

How to Use

Dosage

2 drops into the affected eye(s) 2-4 times daily as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Wash your hands. Open the pouch and detach one single-dose unit. Twist off the cap. Gently pull down your lower eyelid and drop 2 drops into your eye. Do not touch your eye with the tip. Then press the inner corner of your eye for one minute. Discard the single-dose unit after use.

Important

A maximum of 8 drops per day (2 drops, 4 times).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Temporary burning or stinging feeling in the eye after applying the drops.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Slow healing of wounds.
  • Clouding of the eye's natural lens (cataract).
  • Eye infections caused by viruses or fungi in people with weak immune systems.
  • Increased pressure inside the eye (glaucoma).
  • Wider pupil (mydriasis).
  • Drooping eyelid (ptosis).
  • Inflammation inside the eye (uveitis).
  • Changes in the thickness of the front part of the eye (cornea).
  • Inflammation of the cornea (crystalline keratopathy).
  • Blurred vision.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have high pressure in your eye (glaucoma) due to steroid use or other causes.
  • Do not use if you have an active eye infection caused by viruses (like herpes), bacteria, or fungi, or if you have eye tuberculosis.
  • If your eye is red and the cause is unknown, do not use this medicine.
  • Do not wear contact lenses while using this medicine.

  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Always talk to your doctor first if you are thinking about stopping treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older persons. For temporary use. Start and continue therapy under supervision by an ophthalmologist. Do not use if fungal or viral infection is suspected. (updated 4.12.2023)
