How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your specific dose, which varies based on your condition.

Method

Take one capsule on an empty stomach with plenty of water. Drink a lot of water the day after treatment. For small children, the capsule may be given with pureed food.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Underactive thyroid
  • Temporary overactive thyroid
  • Eye inflammation (endocrine ophthalmopathy)
  • Salivary gland inflammation
  • Severe reduction in blood cells (weakness, bruising, infections)
  • Lack of red blood cells (anemia)
  • Bone marrow failure (reduced red and white blood cells)
  • Disturbance or loss of smell or taste
  • Nausea
  • Reduced appetite
  • Ovarian dysfunction
  • Flu-like illness
  • Headache, neck pain
  • Extreme fatigue or drowsiness
  • Eye inflammation (redness, watering, itching)
  • Salivary gland inflammation (dry mouth, nose, eyes, tooth decay, tooth loss)
  • Abnormal, cancer-like increase in white blood cells

  • Runny nose

RARE
  • Vocal cord paralysis
  • Severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, dizziness)
  • Severe overactive thyroid crisis
  • Thyroid inflammation
  • Reduced tear gland function (dry eyes)
  • Reduced or absent parathyroid hormone (tingling, muscle cramps)
  • Thyroid hormone deficiency in offspring
  • Abnormal liver function
  • Severe or temporary overactive thyroid
  • Cancer (e.g., bladder, colon, or stomach cancer)
  • Permanent or severe reduction in bone marrow blood cell production
  • Increased parathyroid hormone production
  • Tracheal inflammation and/or throat narrowing
  • Widespread lung fibrosis
  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing
  • Pneumonia
  • Vocal cord paralysis, hoarseness, or difficulty producing sound
  • Mouth and throat pain
  • Fluid accumulation in the brain
  • Stomach lining inflammation
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Bladder inflammation
  • Menstrual cycle disturbances
  • Impaired male fertility, low or lost sperm production
  • Low blood sodium

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sodium iodide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you have difficulty swallowing, a blocked esophagus, stomach problems, or slow stomach or bowel function.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney problems or difficulty urinating.
  • Follow a low-iodine diet before treatment.
