Sodium iodide (I-131) is a radioactive medicine used to treat thyroid cancer and an overactive thyroid in adults, children, and teenagers.
Your specialist will determine the exact dose for your condition, which can range from 200 MBq for an overactive thyroid to 11100 MBq for advanced thyroid cancer.
Take one capsule on an empty stomach with plenty of water. For small children, it can be given with puréed food. Drink plenty of fluids after taking the capsule and the day after the treatment to help flush the medicine out of your body.
The specialist will determine your exact single dose; do not take more than prescribed.
