A healthcare professional will give you this medicine as an infusion into a vein (peripheral or central).

Important

The recommended maximum daily dose is 40 ml per kg of body weight.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Slight increase in body temperature
  • Inflammation of superficial veins at the injection site (phlebitis)
RARE
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Chills
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Low or high blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fast heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • Allergic reactions (swelling, fever, drop in blood pressure, rash, red raised areas, redness, headache)
  • Feeling of warmth or cold
  • Pale skin
  • Blue lips and skin (due to low oxygen in blood)
  • Pain in neck, back, bones, chest, and lower back

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to fish, eggs, peanuts, soy, or any other ingredients in it.
  • Do not use if you have very high fat levels in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems, severe kidney problems (without dialysis), or acute shock.
  • Do not use if you have uncontrolled high blood sugar or very high salt levels in your blood.
  • Do not use if you have fluid in your lungs, too much fluid in your body, or untreated heart failure.

  • Do not use if you have problems with your blood clotting or are in an unstable condition like serious injury, severe infection, uncontrolled diabetes, or have had a recent heart attack or stroke.
  • This medicine is not for infants or children under 2 years old.
  • If you get a fever, rash, swelling, trouble breathing, chills, sweating, nausea, or vomiting during the infusion, tell the healthcare staff right away. These could be signs of an allergic reaction or too much medicine.
