How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet twice a day.

Method

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood sugar
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite
  • Bloating, constipation
  • Headache, common cold symptoms (like stuffy or runny nose, sore throat), upper respiratory tract infection
  • Joint pain, pain in arms or legs
  • Swelling of hands or feet
  • Metallic taste in mouth
  • Lowered Vitamin B12 levels in blood (may cause extreme tiredness, sore tongue, tingling, pale or yellow skin)
RARE
  • Dizziness, drowsiness
  • Skin rash, itching, hives
  • Dry mouth
  • Muscle pain, back pain
  • Skin blistering
  • Kidney problems, sometimes needing dialysis
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Low platelet count
  • Lung disease (interstitial lung disease)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have a severe allergic reaction like rash, hives, skin blistering, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can cause trouble breathing or swallowing.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you experience severe and persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without nausea and vomiting. These could be signs of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Stop taking this medicine and go to the nearest hospital immediately if you have symptoms of lactic acidosis, a very rare but serious side effect. Symptoms include vomiting, stomach pain, muscle cramps, feeling very unwell and tired, trouble breathing, lower body temperature, and a slow heartbeat. Lactic acidosis can lead to coma.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney problems, liver disease, drink a lot of alcohol, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • You may need to stop taking this medicine temporarily before major surgery or certain medical imaging procedures (e.g., with iodine contrast). Your doctor will tell you when to stop and restart.
