How to Use

Dosage

One tablet

Method

Take twice daily by mouth with meals to reduce stomach upset.

Important

Do not take more than two tablets per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood sugar
  • Nausea

  • Flatulence (gas)
  • Constipation
  • Loss of appetite
  • Swollen hands or feet
  • Headache
  • Upper respiratory tract infection (like a common cold)
  • Stuffy or runny nose and sore throat
  • Joint pain
  • Arm and leg pain
  • Metallic taste in mouth
  • Reduced B12 vitamin levels in blood (may cause fatigue, sore tongue, tingling, pale or yellow skin)
RARE
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Itching
  • Decreased number of platelets (which can affect blood clotting)
  • Kidney problems (sometimes needing dialysis)
  • Muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Interstitial lung disease (a serious lung condition)
  • Bullous pemphigoid (a type of severe skin blistering)
  • Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver)
  • Hives
  • Skin redness (rash)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sitagliptin, metformin, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney problems.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you experience severe, persistent stomach pain (which may radiate to your back) with or without nausea and vomiting, as these could be signs of a serious pancreas problem (pancreatitis).
  • Stop taking this medicine and go to the nearest hospital right away if you get symptoms of lactic acidosis: severe nausea or vomiting, stomach pain, muscle cramps, feeling very weak or tired, trouble breathing, feeling cold, or a slow heartbeat. This is a very rare but serious side effect.
  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you get blisters on your skin.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, especially if you have had pancreas problems, gallstones, or if you drink a lot of alcohol.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having an X-ray or scan that uses a special dye. You may need to stop taking this medicine for a short time.
  • This medicine is not for children under 18 years old.
  • Be careful with alcohol while taking this medicine, as it can increase the risk of a serious side effect called lactic acidosis.
