How to Use

Dosage

One 100 mg tablet.

Method

Take once a day by mouth, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than one 100 mg tablet per day, unless your doctor tells you to take a lower dose due to kidney problems.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood sugar
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Gas
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach discomfort (when starting with metformin)
  • Constipation
  • Swelling of hands or legs
  • Upper respiratory infection (e.g., common cold)
  • Stuffy or runny nose, sore throat
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Pain in arms or legs
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, hives, skin blistering/peeling, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, which may cause difficulty breathing or swallowing)
  • Severe and constant stomach pain (pancreatitis)
  • Diarrhea
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Itching
  • Decreased number of platelets (which can cause easy bruising or bleeding)
  • Kidney problems, sometimes needing dialysis
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Interstitial lung disease (a type of lung disease)
  • Bullous pemphigoid (a serious skin condition with large blisters)

Important Warnings

  • Do not share this medicine with others, even if they have similar symptoms, as it may harm them.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sitagliptin or any other ingredients listed in the leaflet.
  • Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe and constant stomach pain, with or without nausea and vomiting, as these can be signs of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had pancreas problems, gallstones, alcohol dependence, or very high levels of triglycerides (a type of fat in your blood), as these conditions can increase the risk of pancreatitis.
  • If you develop skin blisters, contact your doctor, as this could be a sign of a serious skin condition.

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed.
  • If you take this medicine with other diabetes medications like sulfonylureas or insulin, you might get low blood sugar. This can affect your ability to drive or use machines, so be careful.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without talking to your doctor first.
