How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 100 mg tablet once a day; your doctor may prescribe a lower dose (like 25 mg or 50 mg) if you have kidney problems.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once daily, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 100 mg, unless your doctor tells you otherwise due to kidney issues.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sitagliptin or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) or conditions that increase your risk, like gallstones or heavy alcohol use.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you get severe, constant stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without nausea and vomiting, as these can be signs of pancreatitis.
  • If you notice skin blisters, stop taking this medicine and tell your doctor, as this could be a serious skin condition (bullous pemphigoid).
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you have a serious allergic reaction, such as rash, hives, skin peeling, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat that makes it hard to breathe or swallow.

  • Discuss with your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes complication), or kidney problems.
  • This medicine may cause low blood sugar if taken with insulin or sulfonylurea medicines, so your doctor might adjust their doses.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery, as this medicine can cause dizziness or drowsiness, and low blood sugar (if taken with other diabetes medicines) can affect your ability to drive.
