How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 100 mg tablet once a day. If you have kidney problems, your doctor may prescribe a smaller dose (like 25 mg or 50 mg).

Method

Take by mouth, with or without food and drink.

Important

Do not take more than 100 mg per day. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

  • Severe allergic reactions (e.g., rash, hives, skin blisters/peeling, swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat causing breathing/swallowing difficulties)
  • Severe and persistent stomach pain (abdominal area) that may radiate to the back, with or without nausea and vomiting (signs of pancreatitis)
  • Dizziness
  • Itching
  • Dry mouth
  • Decreased number of platelets
  • Kidney problems (sometimes requiring dialysis)
  • Muscle pain
  • Back pain
  • Interstitial lung disease (a type of lung disease)
  • Bullous pemphigoid (a type of skin blistering condition)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sitagliptin or any other ingredient.
  • Stop taking and see your doctor right away if you get severe, lasting stomach pain that goes to your back, with or without feeling sick or throwing up, as these could be signs of pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas).
  • If you get blisters on your skin, tell your doctor. This could be a sign of a serious skin condition called bullous pemphigoid, and your doctor might ask you to stop taking this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had problems with your pancreas (like pancreatitis), gallstones, alcoholism, or very high fat levels (triglycerides) in your blood, as these can increase your risk of pancreatitis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes complication), or kidney problems. Also, tell them if you've had an allergic reaction to sitagliptin before.

  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed. Talk to your doctor first.
