How to Use

Dosage

One 100 mg tablet.

Method

Take once daily by mouth, with or without food.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 100 mg, unless your doctor prescribes a lower dose due to kidney problems.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Headache
  • Upper respiratory infection (e.g., stuffy nose, sore throat)
  • Joint pain, arm or leg pain
  • Swelling in hands or feet
  • Constipation
  • Nausea
  • Flatulence (gas)

  • Flu
RARE
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Itching
  • Decreased number of platelets (which can cause bruising or bleeding)
  • Kidney problems (sometimes needing dialysis)
  • Muscle pain, back pain
  • Lung disease (interstitial lung disease)
  • Blistering skin condition (bullous pemphigoid), skin blisters

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sitagliptin or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Stop taking and contact a doctor immediately if you have severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without nausea and vomiting (a sign of pancreatitis).
  • Stop taking and contact a doctor immediately if you have a severe allergic reaction, such as rash, hives, facial swelling, skin blistering or peeling, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had pancreas problems (like pancreatitis), gallstones, high blood fat levels (triglycerides), or are an alcoholic, as these can increase the risk of pancreatitis.
  • Tell your doctor if you have type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious diabetes complication), or kidney disease.

  • This medicine can cause low blood sugar if taken together with sulfonylureas (another type of diabetes medicine) or insulin.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed.
  • If you notice skin blisters, contact your doctor, as this could be a sign of a skin condition called bullous pemphigoid.
