How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 100 mg tablet once a day. Your doctor may prescribe a lower dose (like 25 mg or 50 mg) if you have kidney problems.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once a day, with or without food and drink.

Important

Do not take more than one 100 mg tablet per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Vomiting
  • Bloating or gas
  • Constipation
  • Swelling in hands or feet
  • Cold or flu-like symptoms, upper respiratory infection
  • Headache
  • Stuffy or runny nose and sore throat
  • Joint pain, pain in arms or legs
RARE
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dizziness
  • Itching
  • Decreased number of platelets (which help blood clot)
  • Kidney problems (sometimes needing dialysis)
  • Muscle pain, back pain
  • Lung disease (interstitial lung disease)
  • Blistering skin rash (bullous pemphigoid)

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have severe and ongoing stomach pain that spreads to your back, with or without feeling sick and throwing up. These can be signs of pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas).
  • If you have a severe allergic reaction, such as a rash, hives, skin blisters, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you get blisters on your skin, as this could be a sign of a serious skin condition called bullous pemphigoid.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine should not be used by children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
