How to Use

Dosage

For painful muscle spasms, usually 2-4 mg three times a day. For severe muscle stiffness, start with 2 mg three times a day, increasing slowly to 12-24 mg daily. Retard capsules: 6-12 mg once daily.

Method

Tablets are usually taken 3 times a day; Retard capsules are taken once a day. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Important

For tablets, the maximum daily dose is 36 mg. For Retard capsules, the maximum daily dose is 24 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness.
  • Stomach discomfort, dry mouth.
  • Muscle weakness.
  • Trouble sleeping, sleep disorders.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Temporary increase in liver enzymes.
  • Nausea.
RARE
  • Slow heart rate.
  • Stomach pain, vomiting.
  • Itching, slurred speech, allergic reactions.
  • Fainting, reduced strength, blurred vision.
  • Skin inflammation, redness, itching, rash, hives.
  • Liver inflammation, liver failure.
  • Very low blood pressure.
  • Hallucinations, confusion.
  • Severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, severe dizziness, swelling of face/throat).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to tizanidine or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you are taking fluvoxamine (for depression) or ciprofloxacin (an antibiotic).
  • Do not stop or change your dose without talking to your doctor first.
  • Tell your doctor if you have symptoms of liver problems (like nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue) or kidney problems.

  • This medicine can cause dizziness or low blood pressure. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or unwell.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Discuss with your doctor if you are planning pregnancy.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. In severe renal impairment, administer only once a day. Significant adverse effects include sedation, hypotension and torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia. Consider potential interactions. (updated 16.9.2024)
