How to Use

Dosage

A special doctor will decide the right amount of medicine for you.

Method

Sinmelan is given as a shot into a vein or a muscle. It can be used alone or with other medicines that put you to sleep.

Important

Your doctor will set the highest dose you can have in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormal dreams or nightmares
  • Muscle spasms
  • Blurred vision
  • Increased blood pressure and fast heart rate
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Too much saliva or mucus
  • Dizziness
  • Restlessness
  • Increased blood pressure in lung vessels
  • Increased oxygen use, uncontrolled throat muscle spasms, and temporary breathing issues
RARE
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Double vision
  • Temporary fast heart rate while resting
  • Skin rash, skin redness
  • Pain or rash at the injection site
  • Allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with symptoms like breathing difficulties, swelling, and rash
  • Slow heart rate and low blood pressure
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Hallucinations
  • Feeling sad or gloomy
  • Anxiety
  • Feeling confused about time and place

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to esketamine or any other part of this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have a health problem where a rise in blood pressure could be harmful.
  • Do not use if you were pregnant and had eclampsia (seizures) or pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure).
  • Do not use if you have a heart problem called ischemia, unless your doctor uses other anesthetics too.
  • Do not use if you take medicines for breathing problems (like aminophylline, theophylline).

  • Do not use if you are taking ergometrine (a medicine used for some bleeding issues).
  • Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated or have lost a lot of blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had heart disease in the last 6 months.
  • Tell your doctor if you have mild or moderate high blood pressure and a fast heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high pressure in your brain or a brain injury or illness.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high pressure in your eye (glaucoma), an eye injury, or have had eye surgery or exams.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had problems with drug or alcohol dependence.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had mental health problems (like schizophrenia, sudden psychosis).
  • Tell your doctor if you have an overactive thyroid gland or take thyroid medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a lung or upper airway infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver cirrhosis or your liver is not working well.
  • After an outpatient procedure, you will need someone to take you home. Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Do not eat or drink for 4-6 hours before your anesthesia. Do not drink alcohol for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
  • This medicine is usually not used during pregnancy unless your doctor thinks the benefits are greater than the risks to the baby. If used during childbirth, it may affect the baby's breathing.
  • Esketamine can pass into breast milk, but it's not likely to harm your baby if you take the recommended dose.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines after Sinmelan treatment. Do not drive or use machines for at least 24 hours after your procedure.
