How to Use

Dosage

One 5 mg chewable tablet once daily in the evening.

Method

Take by mouth, chew the tablet before swallowing.

Important

Maximum one 5 mg chewable tablet once a day. Do not take two doses on the same day.

RARE
  • Allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of face, lips, tongue, and/or throat; trouble breathing or swallowing)
  • Mood or behavior changes (e.g., anxiety, aggression, depression, seizures, bad dreams, trouble sleeping, sleepwalking, irritability, restlessness, hallucinations, confusion, thoughts of harming yourself, attention problems, memory problems, uncontrolled muscle movements, obsessive-compulsive actions, stuttering)
  • Easier bleeding
  • Shaking (tremor)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Flu-like symptoms with tingling or numbness in arms/legs, worsening lung symptoms, or rash (Churg-Strauss syndrome)
  • Low number of platelets (cells that help blood clot)
  • Swelling or inflammation in the lungs
  • Severe skin rashes
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Dizziness or feeling sleepy
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Nosebleeds
  • Dry mouth, upset stomach
  • Bruising, itching, or hives
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps
  • Bedwetting (in children)
  • Feeling weak, tired, or generally unwell; swelling
  • Painful red bumps under the skin (erythema nodosum)

Important Warnings

  • If your asthma or breathing gets worse, tell your doctor right away.
  • This medicine is not for sudden asthma attacks. Always carry your rescue inhaler.
  • Take all your asthma medicines as prescribed. Singulair does not replace other asthma medicines.
  • Contact your doctor if you get flu-like symptoms, tingling or numbness in your arms or legs, worsening lung symptoms, or a rash.
  • Do not use aspirin or similar pain relievers (NSAIDs) if they make your asthma worse.

  • Tell your doctor if you experience mood or behavior changes, like depression or suicidal thoughts.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years old.
  • Do not take Singulair with food. Take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
  • Do not take other medicines that contain montelukast.
