How to Use

Dosage

One 10 mg tablet.

Method

Take one tablet by mouth once a day in the evening, with or without food. Continue taking it even if you feel well or have an asthma attack.

Important

Do not take more than one 10 mg tablet per day. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Upper respiratory infection
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rash
  • Fever
  • Elevated liver enzymes
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, which can cause difficulty breathing or swallowing. Seek immediate medical help.
  • Behavior and mood changes: anxiety, aggressive behavior, depression, restlessness, irritability, unusual dreams (including nightmares), trouble sleeping, or sleepwalking.
  • Seizures.
  • Increased bleeding tendency (easier bruising or bleeding).
  • Tremor.
  • Palpitations (fast or irregular heartbeat).
  • Combination of symptoms such as flu-like illness, tingling or numbness in arms and legs, worsening lung problems, and/or rash (Churg-Strauss syndrome). Seek immediate medical help.
  • Low platelet count (which can cause easier bruising or bleeding).
  • Severe behavioral/mood changes: hallucinations, confusion, suicidal thoughts or actions, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, or stuttering. Seek immediate medical help.
  • Swelling (inflammation) in the lungs.
  • Severe skin reactions (erythema multiforme), which may appear without warning. Seek immediate medical help.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Dizziness, drowsiness, tingling or numbness.
  • Nosebleeds.
  • Dry mouth, indigestion.
  • Bruising, itching, hives.
  • Joint or muscle pain, muscle cramps.
  • Bedwetting in children.
  • Weakness/fatigue, feeling unwell, swelling.
  • Trouble concentrating, memory loss, involuntary muscle movements.
  • Painful red bumps under the skin, most commonly on the shins (erythema nodosum).

Important Warnings

  • If your asthma gets worse or you have trouble breathing, tell your doctor right away.
  • Singulair is not for sudden asthma attacks. Always carry your rescue inhaler.
  • Do not stop taking other asthma medicines your doctor prescribed. Singulair does not replace them.
  • If you get flu-like symptoms, tingling or numbness in your arms/legs, worsening lung symptoms, or rash, contact your doctor.
  • Do not take aspirin or other anti-inflammatory painkillers if they make your asthma worse.

  • This medicine can cause mood or behavior changes like anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts. Contact your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.
  • This medicine is not for children under 15 years old.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
