How to Use

Dosage

Method

Do not break, chew, or crush the tablet, as the medicine is released slowly.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose. Do not exceed it.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Involuntary movements
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Feeling sick (nausea) or vomiting
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucinations)
  • Confusion
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia), unusual dreams, or feeling very sleepy
  • Dizziness, especially when standing up quickly
  • Tingling, prickling, or numbness of the skin
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Feeling sad (depression), sometimes with thoughts of harming yourself
  • Changes in movement, like being slow or suddenly freezing ('on-off' effect)
  • Loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, or stomach swelling
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle cramps or weakness
  • Chest pain
RARE
  • Fainting
  • Feeling restless or worried (agitation, anxiety)
  • Confusion about where you are or what time it is (disorientation)
  • Trouble paying attention
  • Pain in your stomach or gut
  • Itchy skin, hives, or rash
  • Difficulty walking or falling often
  • Weight loss
  • Suddenly falling asleep
  • Redness of the face or skin (flushing)
  • Hair loss
  • Dark colored urine, sweat, or saliva
  • Blurred vision
  • Feeling very tired
  • Severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, making it hard to breathe or swallow
  • Melanoma (a type of skin cancer)
  • Strong cravings for more medicine than needed to control movements
  • Unusual urges such as strong gambling urges, increased sexual interest, excessive shopping, or compulsive overeating
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Memory loss or trouble thinking clearly (dementia)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Muscle twitches or lockjaw (difficulty opening mouth)
  • Trouble holding urine (incontinence) or trouble emptying bladder (retention)
  • Swelling in parts of the body

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to levodopa, carbidopa, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have suspicious skin changes (moles) that have not been checked, or if you have had skin cancer.
  • Do not take if you are using certain types of MAO-inhibitors for depression.
  • Do not take if you have narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice addiction-like symptoms or a strong urge to use large doses of this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice new or strong urges to behave in unusual ways that could harm you or others (e.g., gambling, overeating, excessive shopping, increased sexual desire).
  • Do not suddenly stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to.
  • This medicine can cause extreme sleepiness and sudden sleep attacks. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has passed.
