How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your condition and how you respond to the treatment.

Method

Take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Take Sinemet every day for the best effect.

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, which should not be exceeded.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Uncontrolled movements, like twitches or jerks.
  • Urinary infections.
  • Feeling sick to your stomach.
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not real.
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat.
  • Dizziness when you stand up quickly.
  • Tingling, prickling, or numbness in the skin.
  • Throwing up.
  • Loose stools.
  • Not wanting to eat.
  • Changes in movement, sometimes feeling stiff or slow (on-off effect).
  • Feeling very sad or hopeless, sometimes with thoughts of hurting yourself.
  • Feeling confused.
  • Strange dreams.
  • Feeling sleepy.
  • Trouble breathing.
  • Pain in the chest.
RARE
  • Passing out.
  • Feeling restless or very excited.
  • Itchy bumps on the skin (hives) or skin rash.
  • Sudden muscle twitches.
  • Losing hair.
  • Darker urine, sweat, or saliva.
  • Suddenly falling asleep.
  • Low red blood cell count (can make you feel tired).
  • High blood pressure.
  • Bleeding in the stomach or intestines.
  • Sore in the small intestine.
  • Itchy skin.
  • Inflammation of blood vessels, causing a red rash.
  • Severe mental changes like false beliefs, or memory loss.
  • Seizures.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to levodopa, carbidopa, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have suspicious skin moles or have had skin cancer.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using certain types of antidepressants (MAO inhibitors).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (a type of eye disease).
  • Sinemet can cause drowsiness or sudden sleep. Do not drive or operate machinery until these symptoms have gone away.

  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice strong urges like gambling, overeating, excessive spending, or an unusually strong sex drive.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor first.
