How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 30 mg (one tablet) once or twice a day, depending on your condition. Your doctor will tell you exactly how much to take.

Method

Take Sinafex by mouth with food or just after a meal. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not chew, crush, or divide them.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose. Do not take more than prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea and vomiting (usually mild and go away quickly)
  • Dizziness
  • Numbness or tingling sensations
  • Loss of or reduced appetite
  • Muscle pain
  • Weakness
  • Rash
  • Decreased testosterone levels
  • High potassium levels in blood
  • Allergic reactions
  • Headache
  • Seizures
  • Low blood pressure
  • Upper respiratory tract infection
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Cough
  • Indigestion
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain, upper abdominal pain
  • Constipation
  • Muscle spasms
  • Back pain
  • Low blood calcium levels
RARE
  • Hives
  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat, which can cause difficulty swallowing or breathing (angioedema)
  • Unusually fast or strong heartbeats due to low calcium levels in the blood (QT prolongation and ventricular arrhythmia secondary to hypocalcemia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Sinafex if you are allergic to cinacalcet or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take Sinafex if your blood calcium levels are too low. Your doctor will check your calcium levels.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had seizures, as Sinafex may increase this risk.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart failure.

  • If you experience muscle cramps, twitching, numbness or tingling around your mouth, fingers, or toes, seizures, confusion, or loss of consciousness, contact your doctor immediately as these may be signs of very low calcium.
  • Low calcium levels can affect your heart rhythm. Tell your doctor if you have unusually fast or strong heartbeats, irregular heart rhythm, or if you take medicines that affect heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you start or stop smoking during Sinafex treatment, as this can affect how the medicine works.
  • Children under 18 with parathyroid cancer or primary hyperparathyroidism should not take Sinafex.
