How to Use

Dosage

Usually 10 mg, 20 mg, or sometimes 40 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once daily in the evening, with or without food.

Important

Never take more than 80 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, cramps, or feeling like your muscles are tearing. These can be serious and may lead to kidney problems or, rarely, death. Also severe muscle pain, often in shoulders and hips, or muscle weakness with rash, joint pain, or inflammation.
  • Severe allergic reactions, including swelling of your face, tongue, and throat that can make it hard to breathe, or dizziness. Also blood vessel inflammation or lupus-like symptoms (rash, joint pain, blood cell changes).
  • Liver inflammation with symptoms such as yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), itching, dark urine, pale stools, tiredness, weakness, or loss of appetite. Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), often with severe stomach pain.
  • Stomach pain, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea (feeling sick), or vomiting (being sick).
  • Headache, tingling or 'pins and needles' feeling, dizziness, numbness or weakness in your arms and legs. Memory problems, confusion, trouble sleeping, or nightmares. Depression.
  • Rash, itching, hair loss, unusual bruising, hives, or skin being very sensitive to light, fever, redness. Rash or sores in the mouth.
  • Anemia (low red blood cells). General weakness. Blurred vision or decreased eyesight. Erectile dysfunction (problems getting or keeping an erection). Lung inflammation (with cough, shortness of breath, or fever). Tendon problems (sometimes a rupture). Sexual problems. Breast enlargement in men (gynecomastia). Myasthenia Gravis (a condition causing general muscle weakness, sometimes affecting breathing muscles). Ocular Myasthenia (a condition causing eye muscle weakness). Diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high blood fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure). Persistent muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness that does not go away after stopping the medicine. High levels of liver and muscle enzymes in blood tests. Shortness of breath and a general feeling of being unwell.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to simvastatin or other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have liver disease, are pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice, as it can affect how the medicine works.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney disease, thyroid problems, drink a lot of alcohol, or are over 65 years old.
  • If you experience unexplained muscle pain or weakness, stop using the medicine and contact your doctor immediately, as it could be serious.

  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including over-the-counter ones, as some can interact with Simvastatin Viatris.
  • If you have myasthenia gravis (a condition causing muscle weakness), talk to your doctor, as this medicine may worsen it.
