How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose, usually 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg once daily. For children (10-17 years), the starting dose is usually 10 mg in the evening.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth once daily in the evening, with or without food. If you are taking a bile acid binding medicine, take Simvastatin SanoSwiss at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after it.

Important

For adults, the maximum dose is 80 mg per day. For children (10-17 years), the maximum dose is 40 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Muscle pain, tenderness, weakness, or cramps, sometimes severe.
  • Allergic reactions like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, or trouble breathing; severe skin rash; joint pain; fever.
  • Liver problems with symptoms like yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, or loss of appetite.
  • Inflammation of the pancreas, causing severe stomach pain.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia).
  • Numbness or weakness in arms and legs.
  • Headache, dizziness, tingling feeling.
  • Blurred vision or vision problems.
  • Stomach problems like pain, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.
  • Skin rash, itching, hair loss.
  • Weakness, trouble sleeping, memory problems (loss, confusion).
  • Erection problems.
  • Depression.
  • Lung inflammation causing breathing difficulties, persistent cough, and fever.
  • Problems with tendons (e.g., tendon rupture), constant muscle weakness, or Myasthenia gravis (a disease causing muscle weakness).
  • Increased risk of diabetes (more likely if you have high blood sugar, high blood fats, are overweight, or have high blood pressure).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to simvastatin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have liver problems.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Do not take Simvastatin SanoSwiss with certain other medicines, such as those for fungal infections, bacterial infections, or HIV, medicines for depression, or some other cholesterol-lowering medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, as this can be serious.
