How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is 10 mg, 20 mg, or 40 mg taken by mouth once a day. For children (10-17 years), the starting dose is usually 10 mg in the evening.

Method

Take the tablets in the evening. You can take them with or without food. If you are also taking a medicine that binds bile acids, take Simvastatin ratiopharm at least 2 hours before or 4 hours after that medicine.

Important

Do not take more than 80 mg per day (adults). For children, the maximum daily dose is 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Headache, dizziness, tingling sensation
  • Stomach pain, constipation, gas, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Rash, itching, hair loss
  • Muscle weakness or pain
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia)
  • Insomnia or nightmares
  • Memory impairment, memory loss, confusion
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Depression

Important Warnings

  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, as this can lead to serious problems like kidney damage or even death.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to simvastatin or any of its other ingredients.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have a liver disease.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or think you might be pregnant.
  • If you are taking fusidic acid for a bacterial infection, you must temporarily stop taking this medicine.

  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice as it can affect how this medicine works.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, as many medicines can interact with Simvastatin ratiopharm.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Possible adverse effects include muscle pain and muscular weakness. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 17.4.2023)
