Method

Simdax is given as an infusion (drip) directly into your vein, starting with a fast 10-minute drip, followed by a slower drip for up to 24 hours.

Important

The infusion usually lasts up to 24 hours. Your doctor will determine the exact duration.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Abnormally fast heart rate
  • Headache
  • Drop in blood pressure
  • Low potassium in blood
  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness
  • Atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat)
  • Extra heartbeats
  • Heart failure
  • Lack of oxygen to the heart
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Low hemoglobin levels (low blood counts)
RARE
  • Hypersensitivity (may include rash and itching)
  • Ventricular fibrillation (a serious type of irregular heartbeat)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Simdax if you are allergic to levosimendan or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not use Simdax if you have very low blood pressure or an abnormally fast heart rate.
  • Do not use Simdax if you have severe kidney or liver disease.
  • Do not use Simdax if you have a heart condition that makes it hard for your heart to fill or empty.
  • Do not use Simdax if you have ever had a heart rhythm problem called Torsades de Pointes.

  • Tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low blood counts (anemia) and chest pain.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a very fast or irregular heart rhythm, or low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Simdax is not for children or teenagers under 18 years.
  • If you are receiving other heart medications intravenously (through a drip), your blood pressure might drop with Simdax.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, discuss this with your doctor before using Simdax.
