How to Use
Dosage
The usual starting dose is 50 mg.
Method
Take one tablet about one hour before sexual activity. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Important
Do not take more than one tablet per day.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Headache
- •Nausea
- •Flushing or a feeling of warmth in the face and body
- •Indigestion or stomach upset
- •Changes in vision, like seeing colors differently, blurred vision, or other vision problems
- •Stuffy or blocked nose
- •Dizziness
RARE
- •Allergic reaction (symptoms include sudden wheezing, difficulty breathing, dizziness, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, or throat)
- •Chest pain (if this happens during or after sex, sit up, relax, and do NOT use nitrates for pain)
- •Prolonged and sometimes painful erection lasting more than 4 hours (contact a doctor immediately)
- •Sudden decrease or loss of vision
- •Severe skin reactions (symptoms include severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering in the mouth, genitals, and around the eyes, fever)
- •Seizures or fits
- •Vomiting
- •Skin rash
- •Eye irritation, red eyes, eye pain, seeing light flashes, bright light sensitivity, watery eyes
- •Faster heartbeat, pounding heart (palpitations), high blood pressure, low blood pressure
- •Muscle pain (including arms and legs)
- •Drowsiness, reduced sense of touch, vertigo, ringing in the ears, dry mouth
- •Blocked sinuses, inflammation of the lining of the nose (symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, blocked nose), dry nose, swollen nose lining
- •Upper stomach pain, heartburn (gastroesophageal reflux disease)
- •Blood in urine, nosebleed
- •Feeling hot, tiredness
- •Fainting, stroke, heart attack, irregular heartbeat
- •Temporary reduced blood flow to parts of the brain
- •Feeling of tightness in the throat, numb mouth
- •Bleeding in the back of the eye, double vision, reduced sharpness of vision, abnormal sensation in the eye, swollen eye or eyelid, small spots or specks in vision, halos around lights, dilated pupils, discolouration of the white part of the eye
- •Bleeding from the penis, blood in semen
- •Irritability, sudden decrease or loss of hearing
Important Warnings
- Do not take Sildenafil Viatris if you are allergic to sildenafil or any other ingredients in this medicine.
- Do not take Sildenafil Viatris if you use medicines called nitrates (often for chest pain) or nitric oxide donors like "poppers," as combining them can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
- Do not take Sildenafil Viatris if you are taking riociguat (a medicine for high blood pressure in the lungs).
- Do not take Sildenafil Viatris if you have severe heart or liver problems.
- Do not take Sildenafil Viatris if you recently had a stroke or heart attack, or if you have low blood pressure.

- Do not take Sildenafil Viatris if you have certain rare inherited eye diseases (like retinitis pigmentosa) or have ever lost vision due to NAION.
- Sildenafil Viatris is not for use by women or by individuals under 18 years of age.
- Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you experience sudden vision loss.
- Avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol before taking this medicine, as it can temporarily reduce your ability to get an erection.
- This medicine can cause dizziness and affect your vision. Be careful when driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
- Do not use Sildenafil Viatris with other treatments for erectile dysfunction or with medicines for high blood pressure in the lungs (PAH) that contain sildenafil or other PDE5 inhibitors.
Use in Elderly Patients
Category C
Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Reduce the dose in liver impairment. Significant adverse reactions include hypotension, ortostatic hypotension, headache and visual disturbances. Consider potential interactions especially with nitrates. (updated 25.11.2024)
