How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 50 mg.

Method

Take one tablet with water about one hour before you plan to have sex. You need to be sexually aroused for the medicine to work.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day. The maximum dose is 100 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Red face, feeling warm (flushing)
  • Upset stomach or indigestion
  • Changes in color vision, blurry vision, or other eye problems
  • Stuffy or blocked nose
  • Dizziness
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with sudden wheezing, trouble breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, or throat. Get medical help right away.
  • Chest pain during or after sex. Sit up, try to relax, and *do not* use nitrate medicines.
  • Erection lasting longer than 4 hours or a painful erection. Get medical help right away.
  • Sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes. Get medical help right away.
  • Severe skin reactions with peeling, swelling, blisters in the mouth, genitals, or around the eyes, and fever. Get medical help right away.
  • Seizures or fits. Get medical help right away.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sildenafil or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking medicines called nitrates, as this can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you use nitric oxide donors like 'poppers', as this can also dangerously lower your blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you are taking riociguat (a medicine for high blood pressure in the lungs).
  • Do not take if you have severe heart or liver problems.

  • Do not take if you recently had a stroke or heart attack, or have very low blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have a rare inherited eye disease like retinitis pigmentosa.
  • Do not take if you have ever lost vision due to a condition called NAION (non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy).
  • If you suddenly notice your vision getting worse or losing vision, stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away.
  • Do not use with other medicines for erectile dysfunction.
  • Do not take this medicine if you do not have erectile dysfunction.
  • This medicine is not for women.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Reduce the dose in liver impairment. Significant adverse reactions include hypotension, ortostatic hypotension, headache and visual disturbances. Consider potential interactions especially with nitrates. (updated 25.11.2024)
