How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 50 mg.

Method

Take one tablet whole with a glass of water about one hour before you plan to have sex.

Important

Do not take more than one tablet per day, and do not exceed a dose of 100 mg.

COMMON
  • Headache

RARE
  • Allergic reaction (sudden wheezing, trouble breathing, dizziness, swelling of eyelids, face, lips, or throat). Stop using and see a doctor right away.
  • Chest pain. Stop using and see a doctor right away.
  • Prolonged and painful erections (lasting more than 4 hours). See a doctor right away.
  • Sudden decrease or loss of vision. Stop using and see a doctor right away.
  • Severe skin reactions (severe peeling and swelling of the skin, blistering in the mouth, genitals, and around the eyes, fever). Stop using and see a doctor right away.
  • Seizures or fits. Stop using and see a doctor right away.
  • Vomiting
  • Rash
  • Bloodshot/red eyes
  • Eye pain
  • Light flashes in vision
  • Brightness, light sensitivity
  • Watery eyes
  • Palpitations (fast heartbeat)
  • High blood pressure
  • Low blood pressure
  • Muscle pain
  • Drowsiness
  • Decreased sense of touch
  • Vertigo (spinning sensation)
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Dry mouth
  • Blocked or stuffy sinuses
  • Inflammation of nasal lining (runny nose, sneezing, stuffy nose)

  • Blood in urine

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sildenafil or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using medicines called nitrates (often for chest pain) or nitric oxide donors ('poppers'), as this can dangerously lower your blood pressure.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using riociguat.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe heart or liver problems, or if you recently had a stroke or heart attack, or have low blood pressure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a rare inherited eye disease like retinitis pigmentosa, or if you have ever lost vision due to NAION (a type of eye damage).

  • Tell your doctor if you have blood disorders like sickle cell anemia, leukemia, or multiple myeloma.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a deformed penis or Peyronie's disease.
  • If you have heart problems, your doctor needs to check if your heart can handle the extra strain of sex.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a stomach ulcer or bleeding problems like hemophilia.
  • If your vision suddenly gets worse or you lose vision, stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor right away.
  • Do not take this medicine if you do not have erectile dysfunction.
  • Do not use this medicine with other oral or local treatments for erectile dysfunction.
  • This medicine is not for women.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are under 18 years old.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. Reduce the dose in liver impairment. Significant adverse reactions include hypotension, ortostatic hypotension, headache and visual disturbances. Consider potential interactions especially with nitrates. (updated 25.11.2024)
