Method

Sevofluran Baxter is given as a vapor that you breathe in through a mask. You might also get another medicine as an injection first to help you fall asleep.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Agitation or restlessness
  • Slow heart rate
  • Low blood pressure
  • Feeling sick (nausea) and being sick (vomiting)
  • Cough
  • Feeling sleepy or very tired
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Fast heart rate
  • High blood pressure
  • Breathing problems or constricted airways
  • Fever or chills
RARE
  • Confusion
  • Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
  • Stopped breathing (apnea)
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), which can include rash, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, and trouble breathing.
  • Seizures or sudden jerking movements
  • Serious liver problems
  • Dangerously high body temperature (malignant hyperthermia)

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to sevoflurane or other anesthesia medicines.
  • If you have had liver problems or jaundice after anesthesia in the past.
  • If you have or might have a risk of malignant hyperthermia (a condition where your body temperature gets dangerously high during or after surgery).
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney, heart, brain, muscle, or mitochondrial disease, or if a child has Down syndrome.
