How to Use

Dosage

Adults: Usually 50 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase the dose weekly. Children (6-12 years) and adolescents (13-17 years) for OCD: Initial dose 25 mg or 50 mg daily, as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take one tablet once a day, either in the morning or evening, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 200 mg per day.

  • Spots in visual field, glaucoma, double vision, light sensitivity, blood in eye, pupils of different sizes, abnormal vision, tear duct problems
  • Heart attack, faintness, fainting or uncomfortable feeling in chest may be signs of changes in heart's electrical activity (seen on ECG) or abnormal heart rhythm, slow heartbeat
  • Poor circulation in arms and legs
  • Rapid breathing, progressive scarring of lung tissue (interstitial lung disease), larynx spasm, voice disorder, slow breathing, hiccups
  • A type of lung disease where eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) are found in the lungs (pulmonary eosinophilia)
  • Mouth sores, pancreatitis, blood in stool, tongue sores, sore mouth
  • Liver dysfunction, severe liver problems, yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice)
  • Skin reaction to sunlight, skin swelling, abnormal hair texture, abnormal skin odor, rash at hair follicle root
  • Muscle tissue breakdown, bone disorder
  • Delayed start of urination, decreased urine output
  • Nipple discharge, vaginal dryness, genital discharge, redness and pain of penis and foreskin, breast enlargement, prolonged erection
  • Hernia, decreased drug tolerance
  • Blood vessel widening procedure (angiography)

  • Bedwetting
  • Partial vision loss
  • Colon inflammation (causing diarrhea)
  • Very heavy vaginal bleeding soon after childbirth (postpartum hemorrhage)
  • Muscle weakness and severe muscle pain, which may be a sign of a disease like multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sertraline or any other ingredients in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking or have recently taken MAO inhibitors (a type of medicine for depression or Parkinson's disease).
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking pimozide (a medicine for mental health conditions).
  • Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy or have had seizures. If you have a seizure, contact your doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. If you have a manic episode (extreme high mood), contact your doctor right away.

  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or suicide, contact your doctor or go to the hospital right away.
  • Be aware of serotonin syndrome (symptoms include agitation, confusion, fast heartbeat, fever, sweating, diarrhea). This can happen if you take Sertralin Orion with certain other medicines. Tell your doctor if you experience these symptoms.
  • This medicine can cause restlessness and a need to move around. Tell your doctor if you feel restless.
  • Do not drive or use machines until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, numbness, sleep problems, anxiety, headache, nausea, vomiting, and shaking.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
