How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily, but your doctor may adjust it based on your condition; for bulimia nervosa, the dose is usually 60 mg daily. For children (8-18 years old) with depression, the starting dose is 10 mg daily.

Method

Take the tablet or capsule with a glass of water, with or without food; do not chew capsules, and tablets can be divided if needed.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 60 mg; for children, the doctor will determine the appropriate dose.

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking Seronil and contact a doctor immediately if you get a rash or allergic reactions like itching, swollen lips/tongue, shortness of breath, or wheezing.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you have fever, muscle stiffness, tremors, confusion, or severe restlessness; these could be signs of a serious serotonin syndrome.
  • If you have thoughts of harming yourself or committing suicide, contact a doctor immediately or go to the nearest hospital.
  • Do not take Seronil if you are currently using or have recently used certain types of antidepressants called MAO inhibitors, as this can cause dangerous interactions.
  • If you have a tendency to bleed or bruise easily, inform your doctor.

  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or rhythm disorders, or if you have a slow heart rate or low potassium/magnesium levels.
  • If you have epilepsy or a history of seizures, tell your doctor, as the dosage may need to be adjusted or treatment stopped.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Serotonergic. A long-acting. After discontinuation, the effect lasts for several weeks. Significant adverse effects include insomnia, headache, dizziness, nausea, tachycardia and low serum sodium level. Increases risk of falls. Consider the numerous potential interactions, especially with drugs that increase the risk of bleeding. (updated 12.2.2024)
