How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children aged 4-12, the usual dose is 2 inhalations twice a day. Not recommended for children under 4 years old.

Method

Inhale Seretide through your mouth into your lungs. After each use, rinse your mouth with water and spit it out to prevent side effects.

Important

Do not use more than your doctor has prescribed. Do not increase the number of doses if your breathing problems get worse.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Thrush (fungal infection) in mouth and throat, sore tongue, hoarseness, throat irritation
  • Aching, swollen joints and muscle pain
  • Muscle cramps
  • Lung infection (pneumonia or bronchitis)
  • Bruises and bone fractures
  • Sinusitis (inflammation of the sinuses)
  • Low potassium levels in the blood
RARE
  • Increased blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens)
  • Very fast heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Tremors and fast or irregular heartbeats (palpitations)
  • Chest pain
  • Anxiety (mostly in children)
  • Sleep problems
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Worsening breathing difficulties or wheezing right after using Seretide
  • Effects on the body's natural steroid hormones (e.g., slow growth in children/teens, bone thinning, glaucoma, weight gain, 'moon face')
  • Behavior changes, like unusual activity or irritability (mostly in children)
  • Irregular heart rhythms or extra beats
  • Fungal infection in the esophagus, causing difficulty swallowing

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor before using if you have heart disease, overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, low blood potassium, or a lung infection like tuberculosis.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if your asthma or breathing gets worse.
  • Do not use Seretide for sudden breathing problems; use a fast-acting rescue inhaler instead. Always keep a rescue inhaler with you.
  • Do not stop using Seretide or reduce your dose suddenly without talking to your doctor.
