How to Use

Dosage

Always take Seretide exactly as your doctor tells you. The usual dose is one inhalation twice a day.

Method

Inhale the powder into your lungs through your mouth using the Diskus device. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after each use to help prevent side effects.

Important

Do not take more than the dose your doctor has prescribed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Sore, creamy-yellow patches in your mouth or throat (thrush). Rinsing your mouth after use can help prevent this.
  • Aching, swollen joints and muscle pain
  • Muscle cramps
  • More frequent common colds (for COPD patients)
  • Bruises and fractures (for COPD patients)
  • Sinus infection (feeling of pressure or pain in your nose, cheeks, or behind your eyes) (for COPD patients)
  • Low blood potassium (can cause abnormal heart rhythm, muscle weakness, or cramps) (for COPD patients)
RARE
  • Increased blood sugar levels (if you have diabetes, you may need more frequent blood sugar checks)
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens)
  • Very fast heartbeat
  • Tremor (shaking) and fast or irregular heartbeat (palpitations)
  • Chest pain
  • Anxiety (mainly in children)
  • Sleep problems
  • Allergic skin rash
  • Slowed growth in children and teenagers
  • Thinning of bones
  • Glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye)
  • Weight gain
  • Rounded face (Cushing's syndrome, also known as 'moon face')
  • Behavioral changes, such as being unusually active or irritable (mainly in children)
  • Irregular heart rhythm or extra beats
  • Fungal infection in the esophagus, causing difficulty swallowing
  • Depression or aggression (mainly in children)
  • Blurred vision

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Seretide if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or any other ingredient in this medicine, especially lactose monohydrate.
  • Seretide is not for sudden breathing problems or wheezing. Always use your fast-acting rescue inhaler for such attacks.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Seretide if you have heart problems (like an irregular heartbeat), an overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes (as Seretide can raise blood sugar), low potassium in your blood, tuberculosis, or any other lung infection.
  • Do not suddenly stop using Seretide or reduce your dose without talking to your doctor first, as this could worsen your breathing.
  • If you experience sudden worsening breathing, severe allergic reactions (like swelling of your face/throat, rapid heart rate, or dizziness) right after using Seretide, stop using it and seek medical help immediately.
