Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, which usually goes away with continued treatment.
  • More common colds (in COPD patients).
  • Thrush (sore, yellowish, raised patches) in the mouth and throat. This can cause pain in the tongue, hoarseness, and throat irritation. Rinsing your mouth with water after use can help prevent this.
  • Aching, swollen joints and muscle pain.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Bruising and bone fractures (in COPD patients).
  • Sinus infections (a feeling of pressure or blockage in the nose, cheeks, and behind the eyes, sometimes with throbbing pain) (in COPD patients).
  • Decreased blood potassium levels (can cause irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, or cramps).
RARE
  • Increased blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia). If you have diabetes, you may need to check your blood sugar more often and possibly change your diabetes treatment.
  • Cataracts (clouding of the eye lens).
  • Very fast heart rate (tachycardia).
  • Tremors (shaking) and fast or irregular heartbeats (palpitations) – these are often harmless and usually go away with continued treatment.
  • Chest pain.
  • Restlessness (mainly in children).
  • Sleep disturbances.
  • Allergic skin rash.
  • Effects on the body's normal steroid hormone production, especially with high doses over long periods. This can lead to: stunted growth in children and adolescents, thinning bones, glaucoma (high pressure in the eye), weight gain, and moon face (Cushing's syndrome).
  • Behavioral changes, such as abnormal activity and irritability (mostly seen in children).
  • Irregular heartbeat or extra beats (arrhythmia).
  • Fungal infection of the esophagus (food pipe), which can cause difficulty swallowing.
  • Depression or aggression (these effects are more common in children).
  • Blurred vision.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or the excipient lactose monohydrate.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart disease (including irregular or fast heartbeat), overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, diabetes, low blood potassium, or a history of tuberculosis or other lung infections.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if your asthma or breathing problems worsen (more wheezing, chest tightness, or needing more quick-relief medicine).
  • Do not stop using Serefarm or reduce your dose suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can worsen your symptoms.
  • Seek medical attention if you experience symptoms of lung infection (pneumonia) such as fever, chills, increased mucus production or change in color, increased cough, or worsening breathing difficulties, especially if you have COPD.
Show 1 more warnings
  • Stop using the medicine and seek immediate medical help if you develop a severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing, rash, itching, swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat), fast heartbeat, weakness, or dizziness immediately after taking Serefarm.
