Serdolect is a medicine used to treat schizophrenia by helping to correct a chemical imbalance in the brain.

How to Use

Dosage

Start with one 4 mg tablet once daily. The dose is gradually increased by one 4 mg tablet every 4-5 days until the maintenance dose is reached, which is usually 12-20 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is usually 20 mg, but in exceptional cases, your doctor may consider up to 24 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nasal inflammation causing sneezing, itching, runny nose, and stuffiness.
  • Failed ejaculation.
  • Dizziness or sudden dizziness when standing up due to a drop in blood pressure.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Weight gain.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Swelling of hands or feet.
  • Strange skin sensations, such as tingling.
  • Reduced semen volume.
  • Impotence.
  • Changes in your heart's electrical activity ('prolonged QT interval'). Prolonged QT interval can cause symptoms like palpitations and fainting.
  • Red and white blood cells in urine.
RARE
  • Frequent, irregular or strong heartbeats, dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath or chest pain. These symptoms may be signs of a life-threatening arrhythmia.
  • Involuntary movements, mainly of the mouth, tongue, or limbs. These may be signs of a nervous system disorder called tardive dyskinesia.
  • High blood sugar.
  • Fast heartbeat known as Torsades de pointes.
  • Increased prolactin levels in blood.
  • Spontaneous milk flow from breasts.
  • Seizures, fainting.
  • High fever, rapid breathing, sweating, muscle stiffness, and stupor or drowsiness. These may be signs of a life-threatening nervous system disorder called neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
  • Blood clots, especially in the leg veins (symptoms include swelling, pain and redness in the leg), may travel through blood vessels to the lungs, causing chest pain and breathing difficulties.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Serdolect if you are allergic to sertindole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Serdolect if your blood potassium or magnesium levels are too low and untreated.
  • Do not take Serdolect if you have a significant heart or circulatory disease, severe heart failure, enlarged heart, or an irregular or slow heartbeat.
  • Do not take Serdolect if you have a congenital or acquired prolonged QT interval (measured by ECG), or if someone in your family has this heart rhythm problem.
  • Do not take Serdolect if you have severe liver problems.

  • Do not take Serdolect if you are taking other medicines that prolong the QT interval or affect liver function.
  • Serdolect should not be used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age due to lack of data.
  • Avoid alcohol while taking Serdolect.
  • Serdolect is not recommended during pregnancy.
  • Do not use Serdolect while breastfeeding unless your doctor says it is absolutely necessary.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how Serdolect affects you.
  • Do not stop taking Serdolect without your doctor's permission, even if you start to feel better.
