Serdolect is a medication used to treat schizophrenia when other treatments haven't worked, by balancing chemical activity in the brain.

How to Use

Dosage

Start with one 4 mg tablet once daily. The usual maintenance dose is 12–20 mg once daily.

Method

Take the tablets whole with a glass of water at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is two 12 mg tablets (24 mg total) once daily in exceptional cases, or one 20 mg and one 4 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stuffy, runny, or itchy nose (like a cold)
  • Absent ejaculation, reduced semen volume, impotence
  • Dizziness or sudden dizziness when standing up due to a drop in blood pressure
  • Dry mouth
  • Weight gain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling of hands or feet
  • Strange skin sensations, like tingling
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (seen on ECG), which might cause a fast heartbeat or fainting spells
  • Red and white blood cells in urine
RARE
  • Fast, uneven, or strong heartbeats, dizziness, fainting, trouble breathing, or chest pain (these can be signs of a serious heart problem)
  • Jerky movements you can't control, especially of your mouth, tongue, or arms/legs
  • High fever, fast breathing, sweating, stiff muscles, and feeling confused or very sleepy (these can be signs of a very serious condition)
  • Blood clots, especially in your leg veins (causing swelling, pain, and redness), which can travel to your lungs and cause chest pain or trouble breathing
  • High blood sugar
  • Very fast and irregular heartbeat
  • Higher levels of a hormone called prolactin in your blood, which might cause unexpected milk from breasts
  • Seizures or fainting spells

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sertindol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if your blood potassium or magnesium levels are too low and untreated.
  • Do not take if you have a serious heart condition such as heart failure, an enlarged heart, an irregular or slow heartbeat, or if you or your family have a history of a specific heart electrical activity issue (prolonged QT interval on ECG).
  • Do not take if you have severe liver failure.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are using other medications that can affect heart rhythm or liver function. Consult your doctor.

  • Not recommended for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, or individuals under 18 years old, unless otherwise directed by a doctor.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, as it may cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience high fever, muscle stiffness, fast heartbeat, sweating, and confusion, or uncontrolled movements in your mouth, tongue, or limbs.
