How to Use

Dosage

Start with 4 mg once a day. Your doctor will slowly increase the dose to 12-20 mg once daily for ongoing treatment.

Method

Take tablets whole with a glass of water at the same time each day, with or without food.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is 20 mg. In some special cases, your doctor may consider 24 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, itching
  • Unable to ejaculate or reduced semen volume
  • Dizziness, especially when standing up
  • Dry mouth
  • Weight gain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Swelling in hands or feet
  • Strange skin feelings, like tingling
  • Impotence
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (prolonged QT interval), which can cause palpitations and fainting
  • Red and white blood cells in urine
RARE
  • Fast, irregular, or strong heartbeats, dizziness, fainting, chest pain, shortness of breath (signs of a dangerous heart rhythm problem)
  • Uncontrolled movements, mainly of the mouth, tongue, or limbs (tardive dyskinesia)
  • High fever, rapid breathing, sweating, stiff muscles, confusion or drowsiness (signs of neuroleptic malignant syndrome)
  • Blood clots, especially in leg veins (swelling, pain, redness) which can travel to lungs (chest pain, breathing difficulties)
  • High blood sugar
  • Torsades de pointes (a serious type of fast, irregular heartbeat)
  • Increased prolactin levels in blood and spontaneous milk flow from breasts
  • Seizures, fainting

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sertindole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have low blood potassium or magnesium (untreated), severe heart disease, or a history of abnormal heart rhythm (QT prolongation).
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, especially those that affect your heart rhythm or liver function.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, even if you feel better, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms.

  • Avoid alcohol during treatment. This medicine is not for children or adolescents under 18 years.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy. Discuss with your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience very fast or irregular heartbeats, uncontrolled movements, high fever with muscle stiffness, or symptoms of a blood clot (e.g., leg swelling/pain, chest pain, breathing difficulty).
