Serdolect is an antipsychotic medicine used to treat schizophrenia when other medicines haven't worked, by helping to balance brain chemicals.

How to Use

Dosage

Start with one 4 mg tablet once a day. Your dose will be slowly increased every 4-5 days until you reach your maintenance dose, which is typically 12 mg to 20 mg once daily.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water, at the same time each day. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 24 mg, which can be reached by taking two 12 mg tablets or one 20 mg and one 4 mg tablet, only in exceptional cases.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Sneezing, itching, runny or blocked nose.
  • No ejaculation.
  • Dizziness or sudden dizziness when standing up, caused by low blood pressure.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Weight gain.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Swelling of hands or feet.
  • Strange skin sensations, like tingling.
  • Reduced semen volume.
  • Impotence.
  • Changes in your heart's electrical activity (prolonged QT interval) which can cause fast heartbeat and fainting.
RARE
  • Fast, irregular, or strong heartbeats, dizziness, fainting, shortness of breath, or chest pain. These can be signs of a life-threatening heart rhythm issue.
  • Uncontrolled movements, mainly of the mouth, tongue, or limbs. These can be signs of a nerve condition called tardive dyskinesia.
  • High fever, fast breathing, sweating, stiff muscles, and confusion or drowsiness. These can be signs of a life-threatening nerve condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
  • Blood clots, especially in leg veins (with swelling, pain, and redness in the leg), which can travel to the lungs and cause chest pain and breathing problems.
  • Red and white blood cells in urine.
  • High blood sugar.
  • A type of fast, irregular heartbeat called Torsades de pointes.
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin in your blood.
  • Spontaneous milk flow from breasts.
  • Seizures or fainting.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sertindol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take if your blood potassium or magnesium levels are too low and untreated.
  • Do not take if you have severe heart problems or a significant heart or circulatory disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, or a history of blood clots or seizures.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it's absolutely necessary.

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor's advice, even if you feel better.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
