How to Use

Dosage

Your dentist will decide how much medicine to give you based on your age and weight.

Method

The medicine is given as a slow shot into your mouth.

Important

The maximum dose is 7 mg for each kilogram you weigh, up to 500 mg for an adult (about 70 kg) or 385 mg for a child (about 55 kg).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Gum swelling and pain from nerve damage.
  • Numbness or reduced feeling around the mouth, changed or lost taste (e.g., metallic taste).
  • Sensitivity to heat, headache, unpleasant touch sensations.
  • Fast or slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, swollen tongue, lips, or gums.
RARE
  • Swelling of the face, tongue, or throat (angioedema), difficulty swallowing, rash, itching, breathing problems (allergic reactions).
  • Drooping eyelid, small pupil, or sunken eye (Horner's syndrome).
  • Burning sensation, high blood pressure, inflammation in the tongue or mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.
  • Neck pain or pain at injection site, nervousness, anxiety, facial paralysis, drowsiness.
  • Involuntary eye movements, double vision, temporary blindness, ringing in ears, sensitivity to sounds.
  • Heart palpitations, hot flashes, wheezing (asthma), breathing difficulties.
  • Peeling gums or skin, hives, muscle twitching, fatigue, weakness, chills.
  • Permanent loss of sensation or taste, strong feeling of well-being (euphoria), heart rhythm problems.
  • Blood vessel changes, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, swollen cheeks, burning sensation in mouth.
  • Skin redness, excessive sweating, worsening of Kearns-Sayre syndrome symptoms, sensations of heat or cold, jaw spasm.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to this medicine, articaine, adrenaline, or other numbing medicines.
  • Tell your dentist if you have serious heart problems, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, or if you've had a heart attack or heart surgery recently.
  • Let your dentist know if you have uncontrolled diabetes, thyroid problems, kidney issues, a rare blood disorder called porphyria, or a muscle weakness condition called myasthenia gravis.
  • Tell your dentist about all other medicines you take, especially beta-blockers, medicines for depression or Parkinson's disease, or blood thinners.
  • Do not eat or chew gum until your mouth feels normal again, to avoid accidentally biting your cheek, lip, or tongue.

  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy, tired, or have blurry vision until you feel completely well.
  • This medicine can rarely cause severe allergic reactions or breathing difficulties due to sodium metabisulphite.
