How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you exactly how many tablets to take. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Method

Swallow the tablets with water. You can take them with or without food. For children under 6 years, tablets should be crushed before giving.

Important

This medicine is usually taken as a single dose. Follow your doctor's instructions for the dose amount and if the treatment should be repeated.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Unusual weakness or tiredness
  • Headache
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Dizziness, sleepiness, shaking, or tremor
  • Fever, sweating, or chills
  • Low blood pressure (feeling dizzy or weak when standing up)
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Worsening itching at the start of treatment (usually not long-lasting)
  • Neck or back pain
  • Red eyes (bleeding in the whites of the eyes)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Incontinence (difficulty controlling urine or stool)
  • Difficulty standing or walking
  • Changes in mental state, drowsiness, or confusion
  • Itching or skin rash
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Swelling, especially in hands, ankles, or feet
  • Vision changes or other eye problems (like infection, redness, unusual sensations, bleeding in eye whites, swollen eyelids)
  • Cough or sore throat
  • Uncomfortable breathing
  • Pain or discomfort in testicles
  • Worsened asthma
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (sudden fever, severe skin reactions, difficulty breathing)
  • Severe skin reactions (target-like spots, peeling skin, blisters, mouth sores, flu-like symptoms, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Liver disease (acute hepatitis)
  • Changes in lab tests (increased liver enzymes, bilirubin, eosinophils)
  • Blood in urine
  • Loss of consciousness or coma

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Scatol if you are allergic to ivermectin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Stop taking Scatol and see a doctor right away if you get a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after taking it. These can be serious reactions.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a weak immune system, problems with your blood-brain barrier, or if you have lived in areas where Loa loa worms are common.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor before using Scatol. Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding unless your doctor tells you to.
  • It is not known if Scatol is safe for children weighing less than 15 kg.
