How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet once a day.

Method

Take one tablet every day at about the same time with some liquid. Continue taking tablets even during your period.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Weight gain
  • Feeling down, trouble sleeping, nervousness, reduced sex drive, or mood swings
  • Headache or migraine
  • Nausea, stomach pain, gas, swollen belly, or vomiting
  • Acne or hair loss
  • Back pain
  • Breast tenderness, ovarian cysts, or hot flashes
  • Uterine/vaginal bleeding, including spotting
  • Weakness or irritability
RARE
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Weight loss or increased appetite
  • Anxiety, depression, or mood swings
  • Problems with the nervous system (like sweating) or difficulty concentrating
  • Dry eyes
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Unusual circulation problems or unusual heart palpitations
  • Low blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, constipation, stomach upset, stomach and bowel inflammation, gum inflammation
  • Dry skin, excessive sweating, itching all over the body, male-pattern hair growth in women (hirsutism), brittle nails, dandruff, rash, skin inflammation (dermatitis), abnormal hair growth, sensitivity to light, or skin pigmentation problems
  • Bone pain, muscle cramps, pain and/or heavy feeling in arms, hands, legs, or feet
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Vaginal yeast infection, vaginal dryness, vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, inflammation of the genitals with discharge (atrophic vulvovaginitis), or lumps in the breasts
  • Swelling due to fluid retention
  • Decreased bone density (in adolescents 12-18 years old)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have or have had blood clots in your veins (e.g., in your legs or lungs).
  • Do not use if you have or have had a serious artery disease, like a heart attack, stroke, or severe chest pain.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes with damaged blood vessels.
  • Do not use if you have or have had a serious liver disease or a liver tumor.
  • Do not use if you have or are suspected of having a hormone-dependent cancer, like breast cancer or cancer of the reproductive organs.

  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to dienogest or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use any hormonal birth control (pills, patches, IUDs) while taking Sawis.
  • Sawis is not a contraceptive; use condoms or other non-hormonal methods to prevent pregnancy.
  • If you become pregnant while taking Sawis, there is a slightly higher risk of an ectopic pregnancy (where the embryo grows outside the womb).
  • If you experience heavy and prolonged uterine bleeding, talk to your doctor, as it can lead to anemia.
  • Stop taking Sawis and contact a doctor immediately if you notice signs of a blood clot, such as severe leg pain, sudden chest pain, sudden shortness of breath, unexplained cough, severe headache, vision changes, slurred speech, dizziness, fainting, weakness, numbness, or odd sensations in any part of your body.
  • Stop smoking while using Sawis, especially if you are over 35 years old.
  • Regularly check your breasts for lumps and contact your doctor if you find any.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience unusually strong abdominal pain.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while on Sawis, as it can increase the medicine's levels in your blood.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking it.
